Week 3 Results – April 14, 2019

From the Commissioner’s Desk:

Well done, hardballers. Our first quadruple-header went off without a hitch. Might I refer you once again to our brilliant website to check in on the standings and schedule? It seems the “original 4” are in a dead heat for last place… A pennant “race to the bottom,” perhaps?

While the week before saw our first successful implementation of the infield-fly rule; this week saw our first unsuccessful implementation on the infield-fly rule. Both moments I will cherish for years to come.

Also, I feel like Jacob Rocha of the 5th Ward Weebies deserves a shout-out here as the first official nominee in 2019 for the Mike Matheny Award, that is, the Best Fastball to the Face, to be awarded at the year-end Gala.

Opening Day Results

An exciting opening day resulted in wins for the Parleaux Beer Labs, Fifth Ward Weebies, and Secret 9!

Note, that despite the initial schedule listing the Pelicans as the home team for this game, they were in fact the away team.

Additionally, a new schedule has been announced, and each team will be playing each weekend, in a 9-week season! Night games will be played at Harrison Field, 1011 Harrison Ave, New Orleans, LA 70124 in City Park. View the updated schedule below!

Superbowl Sunday Baseball

The People’s Baseball League has a history of respect to the great team, The New Orleans Saints. Our Fall schedule is carefully planned around every Saints game. Sadly, a tragic event befell our beloved team, and they were denied the opportunity to proceed to the Superbowl in what will become a scar in the annals of sports history—an event that will for the foreseeable future be dubbed, “The Worst No-Call in NFL History.”

Alas, Superbowl Sunday approaches, and no formal statement, not even a word from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. No retribution, no consolation, not even an explanation. And the nation of people who where the black and gold do not take kindly to the non-actions and non-response of the NFL. We will not participate in your sham Superbowl.

And where do we turn to heal? What will always be there for us in times of sporting strife? Baseball. Classic PBL pick-up baseball. Hot Dogs on the grill. Baseball season is upon us in New Orleans!

What: Super Bowl Sunday Pick-Up Baseball

Where: St. Roch Park

When: Sunday, Feb. 3, 1:00 PM

UPDATE: The precipitation prediction for Feb. 3 has fluctuated wildly in the past few days. This event is weather permitting. In the event of rain, it will be cancelled.

Parleaux Beer Labs hosted Pelicans BC in a rematch of last season’s championship game, and Parleaux came out victorious in eight and a half innings. It was a beautiful day of baseball with both teams playing very well, outstanding weather, and good sportsmanship all-around. Thanks to all who participated. We’ll see you next season!
