Another season has come to a close here in New Orleans. Last week, the Rougarou celebrated their first championship win before one final bout of rain drove the fans home and extinguished the fire.

Yes, it was a splendid morning matchup after a period in which the Baseball Gods seemed to not want the season to end. Now, with the Christmas Curtain lifting — and with it our spirits — we take time to reflect and revel in joyous memories.

Many happy returns to all of you. 2024 is shaping up to be a great year for baseball. Stay tuned for all the fun to come.

The first ever PBL Thre-Way between the Crete Street Riot, Fifth Ward Weebies, and Secret 9 began on December 7, 2023. Rougarou manager, Mike Krikorian took it upon himself to record some commentary starting in the top of the 17th inning, featuring color commentary from Kelley Engman, and whoever else felt like chiming in. It’s that special time of year again. That time where we all reflect on what we’re grateful for and that time to remember the first Thanksgiving. Yes, we here at the PBL look back in remembrance of Jesus breaking bread and carving the very first turducken for his disciples.

And aren’t we all disciples — disciples of baseball? We disciples are thankful for baseball and all of our PBL friends this Harvest Festival BYE week. With the regular season behind us, the playoff picture is coming into view with the traditional amount of late season chaos.

Another week, another set of winners and losers. This reporter would love to say “we’re all winners here at the PBL” but that just simply isn’t the case. If you are picking up any cynicism from your favorite journalist, congratulate yourself and thank layoffs in tech for this sunny disposition.

But we’re not here to talk about me (well, kind of), we’re here to talk about Baseball! Baseball once again presented itself as the great egalitarian upon the humble and hallowed grounds of Perry Roehm. We love Perry Roehm with all its little hops. Bless you all who poop there during the 9am game.

Just a reminder, you can see yourself represented in these posts! Talk to your manager, talk to me, send little piccies of you and the homies having fun. Also, be nice to the umpires. Ask yourself and your teammates “am I or are we being nice and treating our fellow comrades and players like I want them to treat me?” There’s more than one way to be a winner and more than one way to lead. <— that’s the nice version of me making fun of you.

Wow, its Friday. Can you believe it? What an absolute week of a week. “What have you been doing instead of posting about PBL,” you ask? To tell you the truth, I’ve been playing this game ‘Inis’ and researching the differences between the Gregorian calendar and ISO 8601.

But let’s talk about baseball that doesn’t involve meme-ing the word “jawn” or defending the Astros with phrases like “everyone else was cheating too.” Yeah we’re looking at you, Milwaukee, but enough about that (go Snakes 🐍). Baseball has happened to us and continues to keep happening over-and-over again. What a week! A week so jam-packed with events and substance that we couldn’t contain the baseball to just one Sunday. Yes this week — and this weekend especially — taught us that no human-made events or objects could stand in the way of baseball. That’s right, no shitty job at a tech company that’s left you hollow inside, nor mass virtue signaling over conflicts that span centuries, nor a really annoying divot on the pitcher’s mound could keep us from the throws of that great art we call baseball.

And as we all know, history was made this week. Yep, the very first sweep in PBL history was settled by the Gentilly Giants against the home Fifth Ward Weebies! Three nights filled with highs and lows graced the hallowed ground of Perry Roehm and left us with a special moment in baseball history. The series also left us with broken glasses and an excellent pun to round out the first paragraph.

If you missed it, look up “throes” and realize that, much like life itself, baseball too is filled with suffering (don’t worry, its the good kind — probably).

Your fair and completely unbiased reporter has returned to New Orleans just in time to feed the baby birds their midweek Instagram fix. Waking up at 4am severely jet lagged is no match for all the joy that the little red hearts give me on this app.

Anyways, this week’s update come with a story! Giants were down 13-0 after the third this past Sunday. The Beef pitcher struck out 8 players in those three innings! Can you believe it? The Giants used the strikeout rule to level the playing field and came back to win 15-14! What an exciting game!
