Bayou St. John Blues Win The Spring 2022 Championship

Bayou St. John Blues Team Photo after winning the Spring 2022 Championship

It was a hot one out there today folks! With the heat index in the 110s, both teams brought all they had to the table. After a hard fought nine innings, the @bsjbluesbaseball bagged themselves their first championship title. Although the game ended with a score of 8-1, one Blues player was quoted saying that the Weebies fought hard to stay in and claw forward. In the end, the People’s Baseball League would like to congratulate the Champion Bayou St. John Blues on a tremendous 9-1 regular season and a well earned championship title.

The League also would like to thank all who met to keep the true spirit of these fair people alive in the Gala game. After two exceptionally long innings, the game was called due to excessive heat as the temperature on the field began to exceed 115 degrees. But that didn’t stop those few from having a hell of a time running backwards and stealing 4th.

Until next season, folks!

Spring 2022 Playoffs Recap

Hello, baseball fans! Its Championship Weekend this weekend at Larry Gilbert Stadium. That’s right, round one of the playoffs concluded last Sunday after two, equally long games. It was a hot one out there with the heat index over 100, sparking a few pop up rain storms accompanying the pop ups over our humble field. Yes, it was Wet Hot American Baseball and the two championship teams have been decided.

The @fifthwardweebies will visit the @bsjbluesbaseball this Sunday at high noon. These teams advanced after the Weebies and @discretestreetriot decided to put their toes away and play some ball. Following the Weebies/CSR contest, the @s9nola and Blues took the field for a tense, 14-inning contest. Alvarado stole home to put the Blues into the championship match — an exciting conclusion to an exciting game.

The Gala Game will follow the championship game this Sunday. Thanks to all the grounds crew that helped get the field playable for round one. Stay tuned for more updates for the weekend. If you want to help our crew chief, Andy Gross from Rougarou, umpire the championship game, please let me know!

Week 9 Recap – Spring 2022

Another Sunday filled with fun and highlights! @discretestreetriot and @gentilly_giants_pbl kicked things off. @2millman4 and the Riot channeled the great Hideo Nomo (as well as some unsanctioned performance enhancing brownies) to take the hard-fought win over the Greenies. Then, at high noon, the @fifthwardweebies took the field to face the @s9nola in a game where more knuckleballs were thrown than images captured. S9 clinched a much needed win as they ignited their propane tank. @rougarou_nola and @bsjbluesbaseball took the field thereafter with a Weebie at third and a Greenie in left. Playing 18 innings, you have to wonder if there was more than just coffee in the stand-in’s mugs 💊. The Blues remain undefeated after the only shutout of the weekend. The sun set and the swarm emerged as the @nolapelicansbc and @beefslidersbaseball took the field in a hard hitting matchup under the lights. The Pelicans took home more than fish as they picked termites from between their teeth.

Make up games all week under the lights at Perry Roehm as we come down the stretch!

Week 7 Recap – Spring 2022

Sunday was yet again another beautiful day for baseball in our humble and pothole-ridden city. The possibly hungover — but definitely not overheated — @nolapelicansbc and @cretestreetriot took the field before the sun unleashed it’s hot fury over Larry Gilbert Stadium. The @nolapelicansbc bagged another W before the @gentilly_giants_pbl and @rougarou_nola battled it out at high noon. Then, as dark clouds formed and lightning filled the distant skies, the @beefslidersbaseball hosted the @bsjbluesbaseball in an action packed contest. Joel logged his first K after taking the mound and left the game with 0 earned runs. Then, as the sun set and under eclipsed moon, the @fifthwardweebies and @s9nola had themselves a nail-biter that ended in the purple team coming out ahead as the moon reddened.

Week 5 Recap – Spring 2022

Baseball was played in the Crescent City this past Sunday. Early in the morning, the @nolapelicansbc sealed up their first win of the season against the hot-in-the-streets @beefslidersbaseball. Rain clouds loomed as @s9nola and @cretestreetriot took the field. An exciting matchup ensued and don’t worry folks, the grounds crew confirmed that no potatoes were sprouting around third base. The @bsjbluesbaseball and @rougarou_nola then had themselves a high-scoring, post rain ballgame filled with excitement and cigar smoke lofting through the third base dugout. Then, the Purple Team and the Green Team took Larry Gilbert Stadium under beautiful skies and a vibrant rainbow bestowed by the Baseball Gods for our league’s use of untethered bases and neighborhood plays. The night game swiftly became a pitcher’s duel before the @fifthwardweebies clawed their way back to their second walk off win in a row. Note, a HBP resulted in the walk off so take it however you like.

We’re off this week for JazzFest but also the travel game in Nashville (don’t worry I’ll post something about that soon). Have fun while we’re in Nashville and maybe play some pickup?

Week 4 Recap – Spring 2022

Well, it’s Wednesday so it’s time to feed the content machine. The greatest sandlot baseball teams in the history of man played baseball this past Sunday and boy did some teams win. However, as we all know, winning doesn’t matter if there isn’t a trophy at the end of the season.

This past Easter Sunday had it all: players HBP in almost every at bat, 12-inning ball games, the @cretestreetriot were there. Speaking of Easter, I think the @fifthwardweebies may not be sure who ‘He’ is from the phrase “He is risen” after this fair reporter saw them dawn the purple that some thought was long retired. Well, I guess not as the Purple Team is apparently back and stronger than ever, delivering a walk-off single in the bottom 12th during the night game. By the way, the Holy @s9nola and the Blessed @beefslidersbaseball decided to postpone their game to Friday night at the old field. As the saying goes: on the eighth day He rose again.

Week 3 Recap – Spring 2022

It’s time for your midweek update and I’m happy to report baseball was played this past Sunday! And don’t you worry my hungry little baby birds, I have all the videos, pictures, and glamour shots to satisfy your appetites and prove that at least some of the games were actually played. Nail biters ensued all Sunday long after the Blues and Weebies finished their artificial orange juice and welcomed the day with the all too familiar highs and lows of playing baseball. The Rougarou and Pels took the field thereafter, giving the fans what they wanted. When one spectator was asked what she thought, she was quoted as saying that the game was “really entertaining.” S9 and The Green Giants duked it out at 3 before CSR the Burger Boys battled it out under the lights. It’s fair to say that any fan present in the grandstands on Sunday surely chewed completely through their finger nails, gnawing all the way down to the knuckles with no team winning by more than three runs.
