Mid-Season Update

Baseball, baseball, baseball. It’s been a busy couple of weeks in New Orleans, filled with — you guessed it — baseball! The PBL has baseball coming out the wazoo and it feels so good.

Everyone’s back from North Carolina and the Moontowers have absconded after they’re devastating, and frankly embarrassing, loss without building us lights at Larry Gilbert. Maybe they plan on letting another Austin team pay their debt…

Anyways, nature is healing after Easter Sunday and rainouts threatened to dissolve the league entirely. The meltdowns and the dirtbags have re-emerged and the people are once again resting easy in the Crescent City. Here’s the standings as of today:

CSR 4-0
ROU 4-1
BS 3-1
GG 2-3
BSJ 2-3
PELS 1-3
S9 1-3
5WW 1-4

Austin Moontowers

The @austinmoontowers have come to town and been defeated in a tight ballgame against the @gentilly_giants_pbl (final score 7-6). Another great classic played at Larry Gilbert goes into the books and new friends have been made.

Unfortunately, the other teams in town this weekend couldn’t be bothered to play pickup after the Giants’ game wrapped. Only one game was therefore played. I’m sure everyone will all be thanking the Giants when considering our out-of-town exhibition game record.

Regularly schedule baseball resumes for the common people tomorrow!

PBL Series Update

Last night, the first series in PBL history came to a close. The @gentilly_giants_pbl and @fifthwardweebies decided to make up their week 4 rainout with a three game series at St. Roch Park this week. The games were played at 6:30 from Tuesday-Thursday and contained some of the most exciting baseball we have seen this season. Ultimately, the Giants took the series and therefore the win for week 4. However, during a high scoring game 3, the Weebies refused to be swept and scored 24 runs over the Giants’s 22.

There was pizza, a Fifth Ward Weebies IPA, hot dogs, screaming fans, and neighborhood revelry. Pictured here are the teams following game 3 and our Triple Crown Players that attended and played all three games this week. This was truly something special, maybe we’ll see more teams organize series in the future!

Games scores:
GG (8) @ 5WW (7)
5WW (8) @ GG (17)
GG (22) @ 5WW (24)

Spring 2023 – Week 2 Recap

PBL Week 2 has come to a close! We had ourselves an action-packed weekend with the @nashvilledollys coming to town and playing at the word famous St. Roch Park. There was crawfish, karaoke, a portable bathroom, and some baseball! Thanks to everyone — especially @daodekay — who made this exhibition happen.

We also entertained our regularly scheduled programming this Sunday at good ol’ Larry Gilbert (btw, that black and white image from last week was Larry Gilbert, himself). The sun shone (shined?) and 4 games were played. Now, get ready for some Holy ABs this Sunday as Easter baseball returns with at least two games being played as scheduled. I mean hey, we get it, Koufax didn’t pitch on Yom Kippur and half of the PBL players are pagans. Happy Passover!

Scores:
5WW (7) @ Beef (10)
ROU (3) @ S9(2)
BSJ (5) @ CSR (14)
GG (6) @ Pels (11)

Opening Day Recap – Spring 2023

Opening Day is in the books! That’s right, the terrible and ominous threat of rain was thwarted by the baseball gods and more likely, the great Larry Gilbert himself. Beautiful, partly cloudy and windy conditions persisted throughout the day and gave way to great baseball. All teams also got a taste of the new and improved foul lines that lent out more than a couple borderline hits. And the ultimate question still hangs over all of our heads: who will be the first pitcher to be pulled and beheaded after reaching 7 strikeouts?

Now prepare yourselves for a barnstormer of a Saturday at St. Roch Park. The @nashvilledollys are loading up the merch trailer and making their way down for a double header at St. Roch at 3 pm and 6ish pm (and a bonus game the Friday before if you’re on the Pelicans). Free music, free beer, karaoke, crawfisfh (maybe) are all things that have been rumored to be available this Saturday. The Dollys want to play members from each team, so if you’re interested in playing RESPOND TO THE EMAIL. If you DM me about wanting to play Saturday, I will laugh at you before eventually giving your name to our Lord Commissioner (because I’m a nice guy that also happens to enjoy a good parenthetical statement). But yeah, respond to the email if you want to play.

Alright, here’s your scores. See you out there this weekend.
S9 (3) @ Blues (4)
CSR (9) @ 5WW (7)
ROU (9) @ PELS (2)
Beef (3) @ GG (2)

Pelicans Win the Fall 2022 Championship

A team photo of the Fall 2022 Champion Pelicans Baseball Club baseball team of the People's Baseball League in New Orleans, LA at Larry Gilbert Stadium in the Hollygrove neighborhood.

The Fall 2022 Season came to an end yesterday as the Pelicans Baseball Club defeated the Rougarou! The fans, the parents, and the kegs were out in full force on a brisk Sunday afternoon moments after Lionel Messi won a World Cup, and solidified his place as the greatest of all time.

Final Score Pels (8) @ Rou (0). Listen to the broadcast of the game here – call by Ryne Hancock.

What a historic day! Congrats to the Pelicans on this rematch of the first championship game.

See you in the Spring! ✌️
